I've been wondering for a while now if and when they would make a LI battery for hand tools. Finally that day has come! The lasting power of the LI is a marked improvement over the NiCad battery. I have a brand new NiCad and 2 LI, and the LI lasts 2 - 3 times as long. I can actually get some work done w/ them now!

The only drawback is you need separate chargers for the LI and NiCad batteries.

A nice option to buying a new set of lithium tools, at least for my needs. So far, so good. These batteries are easy to remove, unlike the old ni-cad batteries which became impossible. They seem more powerful, and hold a charge well. Run time seems good, and they charge quickly. Being half the size and weight as the ni-cads is also a plus.

I don't think that most people are going to want to invest more money in 2 batteries and a charger than they paid for a complete tool set, but I like the tools (even though the color design Skil used makes them look like a kid's toy raygun), especially the drill and circular saw. I didn't want to just throw the set away. Also, this is the only cordless brand I've seen where the circular saw's blade is on the right, which works for southpaws. I can see the line as I cut. Re-use made sense for me, anyway, since I can't easily or cheaply replace the lefty saw.

"Skil Now Has A Lithium Ion Replacement Battery!" 2009-09-27

This isn't really a review of the battery because, if you have a Skil tool that requires this type of battery then you didn't have much choice but to buy this batter. I've had mine now for a few years and they lasted almost a year and a half before they died on me. One big tip I suggest is to keep your batteries in a place with consistent and cool temperature. I used to leave my batteries in the garage or shed and I'm pretty sure that contributed to their short life.

The second point I wanted to make is that you can now buy a Lithium Ion replacement battery instead of this old Ni-Cad battery. I just got my new Lithium Ion battery yesterday so I can't comment on it in any meaningful way except to say that it has brought my tools back to life. I particularly like my Skil hand drill and Skil reciprocating saw so having those back is a great thing plus I get all the benefit of Lithium Ion.

These new Lithium Ion batteries require a new charger so you'll have to buy the battery and charger pack which runs about ninety bucks at Lowe's. This is one of two SKIL reconditioned sets I purchased for my husband. It works well for home use. He uses the drill often, and the flashlight at work as needed. He had a SKIL drill before and didn't really like it due to it's battery. But this set had the new battery design that so far seems to keep a charge well. I would recommend this set for anyone needing a drill around the home.

I have a similar set, only with a jig saw instead of a flashlight. the kit is a good price only 150 i paid, 2 batterys, and 4 tools. the drill works ok, and so does the saw zall.the batteries dont last too long, and the circular saw will eat a battery up in under 10 minutes of use, with a fully charged battery. I do like the battery charge leds on the batterys to give you an idea on the charge level. Overall nice kit, just need a few more batteries to make sure you dont run out mid job

Update-ive been using my set for renovating my house for a about 1 year now. The tools have casual use, not contractor type use. The batteries are very weak and when using the sawzall will dye out from fully charged in about 5 minutes of use. Your run time is very limited with any of the tools other than the drill.

seems like a good deal, but it sure sucks to stop mid job to either charge the batteries up or dig out a corded tool. After all why would you have bought the cordless kit in the first place.

UPDATE-11/27/09 My batteries are pretty much done. I will charge them and come back a few days later to find the leds on back indicate no charge in the battery. At this point i can spend the cash and buy 2 new batteries or just man up and buy a better quailty set. I would recommend the higher quailty tools, since their bateries are more prone to lasting several years.

I ordered the 18v cordless 4-took combo kit and received it in great condition except that it had no battery, it had a charger but no battery to charge - ARGH! I have emailed countless times and also snail mailed correspondence (within the 30 day time limit)asking them to send me a battery and still not received any response. In the meantime, I had to go to Lowes and buy a battery for $60 to use my reconditioned drill, saw, etc. which I ordered to finish a home improvement project. I will never order from Skil again, the customer service doesn't exist. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

All the pieces of the combo kit worked really great. The Skil Circular saw was the best as it uses standard 7 1/4 inch blades. For a battery operated device this is great. In terms of value, it great. I wouldn't pay twice as much for the new DeWalt 4-combo 36 volt kit. It's nice, but way too expensive. The only drawback is the flash light. It's a cheap energy sucking incandescent light. Skil should replace it with 10 or more high intensity white LED's. Overall good value.

I went through 2 of the chargers that originally came with my equipment, before I purchased this charger. I wish I had purchased it sooner. Not only does it take only a fraction of the time to charge my batteries, it has actually improved their performance. With the last stock charger I had one of my batteries would not charge and the other was seriously weak. Now both batteries charge and give me a reliable amount of power. I can't guarantee it will do the same for you, however in my opinion this is the charger that should have came with my tools in the first place.

Lowes and other retailers sells 2 of these batteries, the charger and THE DRILL are sold for less than $50.00 so why would anyone be willing to pay $29.00 for this single battery..

I think Skill should re evaluate their spares and replacement products to a more reasonable cost for folks that buy their products... this is a rip off and I do not think folks should purchase these products until until Skill address's the prices..

The old battery for my Skil cordless drill wouldn't hold a charge. The drill is over five years old. I purchased a replacement battery (Skil 120Bat-12 volt 1-1/5 Amp Hour Nicad Slide style) via Amazon. It was packaged in a Skil blister pack. It's identical to the old one. I charged it,and it works great. Lots of power. It's like I have a brand new drill. The price was fantastic as well. I received it in a few days after ordering.I am back in business.
