 "Multi cutter tool" 2010-07-27

Purchased this tool thinking it would be easy to cut berber carpeting in manageable strips for disposal. WRONG. Nothing thicker than cardboard would this tool be useful.

"Still going strong after around two years" 2010-05-29
By John S. Dean (Sturtevant, WI United States)
Got this as soon as it came out at a local brick and mortar, so may even be more than two years old now, don't remember exactly when I got it.

Battery still is strong and holds a charge, so I"m luckier than some of the other reviewers who talked about having battery concerns.

Others have mentioned how it has problems feeding things too thick, but for me that's not an issue since I use it exclusively for cardboard boxes. Everything I get is purchased almost exclusively online, so the Fed Ex and UPS guys are here all the time. I end up with way too many cardboard boxes to break down, as our recycling pickup requires everything in 2x2 pieces. So I got this to help that task, and it sure did.

Much better than using a razor cutter as I had been, and the way it protrudes makes it work great at the edges of the boxes to cut each side away.

The button locations were not a problem for me at all, feels just fine. It's comfortable to hold for a while and shaped well to fit into the hand, and gives you a great grip to push it through the cardboard.

I like that the light changes color so you can see when it needs charging, as well as can see when the charging is complete. It's nice to be able to just turn it on for a sec to verify that it has a charge before I go to use it.

It's also nice that it works at a good speed just about to the very end of battery life. It doesn't just slow down and become useless, it keeps working right up to the end.

For someone like me who gets a ton of cardboard in the mail, it's an absolute requirement.

"not a heavy duty cutter" 2010-03-06
By Patrick Flynn (Boston, MA USA)
I'm sure this is fine to cut cardboard, however it is not a good idea to buy this for anything more than small projects. I tried to cut vinyl tile with this and it chokes up every few seconds, causing me to go back to using a normal razor blade for better accuracy.

"A Must Have for Cardboard boxes" 2010-02-16
By E. Tanner
Skil 2352-01 3.6-Volt Lithium-Ion Multi-Cutter. Note that I only have used this item for breaking down boxes from our business shipments. I was tired of cutting down boxes using a standard box-cutter blade, for flat packing.

For single-wall cartons, this cutter slices through the box folds/creases with ease, like pushing an self-powered lawnmower.

For single-wall cartons, cuts not-along the box folds, are still a breeze, with minimal effort.

Double-wall shipping cartons require a tad bit more effort to push the cutter, but nothing worth complaining about for a battery powered hand-cutter.

I have yet to find a battery-powered cutter that performs better then this model. I cut a few hundred boxes a week, about 20" cubed or larger, and have no complaints. With 30 minute box cutting sessions per day, I only have to recharge this cutter at the end of each week. The power indicator turns red, when you need a charge, just like a beard shaver.

Definately recommended for breaking down single or doublewall shipping cartons.

Our new lithium ion screwdriver is the perfect tool for all your household chores and the battery will never discharge. Lithium ion technology helps to make the battery in the IXO extremely small. The result - the IXO is lighter and handier than any other cordless screwdriver. The new BOSCH IXO Screwdriver is the first DIY tool with a lithium ion battery. It will still carry most of its initial battery capacity even when it isn't used for long periods of time (mobile phone technology). The innovative battery technology from Bosch does not discharge between use like normal Cordless Tools. This means cordless users can have the best of both worlds- the mobility of a cordless machine and power when you need it. Ideal for work in small places and for tradies to carry around in their pocket. DIY'ers can conveniently store this in their kitchen cupboard. Small and lightweight the IXO has been ergonomically designed to offer practical handling and is an easy solution for all screwdriving tasks.  "Works well as a general purpose cordless screwdriver!" 2010-07-23
By Jim T. Ly
I enjoy using this power mini-driver. I have used it to help me assemble curtain brackets, office tables, etc. Honestly, I prefer using this over a hand screwdriver. This thing helps my jobs go faster. Heed some of the negative reviews written they have some truth behind them (ie. lack of a clutch means possible overtorquing and stripping screws, lack of an extra rechargeable battery...the batt on this thing is internal). Overall, based on my experiences I'm giving this a great review because it hasn't let me down yet. I would most likely purchase an upgraded product should the Skil fail in the future.

"A Better Choice Out There For a Few Dollars More" 2010-02-03
By S. Diamond (Oak Park, IL United States)
Unless you need the right angle attachment, you should instead consider the Bosch SPS10-2 4-Volt Max Pocket Screwdriver, which is only a few dollars more. Skil is a subsidiary of Bosch. Both screwdrivers are made in Malaysia, so one can assume they come out of the same factory. But the Bosch comes with two removable lithium batteries, whereas the Skil only has an integrated one. Also, if your dog eats the right angle attachment, Skil does not offer a replacement. It only comes with the original purchase. To me that sounds like dumb customer support. The IXO3 was originally announced in 2008 with optional attachments beside the included right angle drive, but they are not now available from Skil. The IXO3 comes with a removable rubber cap to accommodate attachments to the front of the driver. The rubber may deteriorate over time, though the driver can operate without the rubber cap.

 "A let down" 2010-01-29
By John T. Tran
This screwdriver does not have torque settings. Torque settings is what keeps you from overtorquing and stripping out your screws. Also, if you need to run screws after screws very quickly, you'll be severely disappointed with this screwdriver. Spend just a tad more and get the Hitachi DB3DL. It has torque settings, runs a lot faster, and comes w/ 2 rechargeable batteries. So, if one battery goes down, you can slip in the other one and continue working with no down time.

The Skil iX03 2346-05 with the Li-Ion battery is much better than the Skil Super Twist with interchaneable Nickel Cadmilum batery packs. The Li-Ion last mush longer per charge. The Skil iX03 2346-05 has the 90 degree adaptor and bits that let it handle more jobs. The Skil iX03 2346-05 is a better fit to your hand also.

This is a re-order battery for my cordless screwdriver, which is five years old. Original battery just now began to not hold a charge for longer than a day...this is pretty good performance to me as I use this tool a lot. I do drain the battery all the way, though...which is easier to do with two battery packs. Believe this has a lot to do with longevity.

Owning a Skil screwdriver for many years, I bought two new batteries after the old battery died, charged them up and was very happy. Unfortunately on the second charge I discovered that the charger had burned out. So, if I buy a new charger it will cost me more than buying a brand new screwdriver set with a new battery ( different style of course! ) and charger. What would you do? I have two new batteries available if you still have a charger that has not burned out.

"Cost effective charger but unprtected against battery problems" 2010-04-05
By R. E. Falk
Bought 3 of these and first two burned out on the first charging cycle. Says will charge up to two discharged battery in 3 hours. Beware if your battery reads 0.0 volts before charging, as it might burn-out the charger. The primary winding of the charger transformer burned-out (opened up) in the first two chargers, making the charger unusable. The problem is that older Ni-Cad batteries develop internal metal "whiskers" that short-out the battery, hence a 0.0 volt reading. In trying to charge the shorted battery, the unprotected (unfused) charger develops too much current (amps) which is beyond the capacity of the charger transformer. The simple solution is for the manufacturer to place a fuse in the unit to protect the transformer from over-current. Using appropriate caution, there is a way to eliminate the battery whiskers before charging. Google "ni-cad zapper". I have been able to charge ni-cads that have been recovered by zapping them, thus extending the life of the battery. The rating, minus 2 stars, is because it is an unprotected charger. Otherwise, it would get a 5 star rating. These comments apply to any ni-cad charger on the market. If they don't have a fuse, you'll be contibuting to the land fill, sooner than later.

"Battery Charger for Skil Driver - POOR Quality" 2009-11-24
By J. Lanter
The charger itself works great but the AC adapter (which plugs into the wall) suffers from a defect that causes it to melt and stop working if you leave it plugged in for too long. I've gone through two so far and am hesitant on ordering another one. The Skil Driver that I have is AWESOME so it's unfortuneate that the recharger is so awful. (Luckily for you, not neccessarily for me) you can't buy this particular model Skil Driver anymore - those of us unlucky enough to own one however, we're stuck with a pretty awful product.

I bought a set (scewdriver and flashlight) about 15 years ago. The screwdriver stopped working and the batteries stopped charging up. I kept the flaslight hoping I could do something with it. I found these batteries and a charger. I did just what they said not to, I tried to charge the old battery and it killed the charger. I bought 2 more chargers and everything is great. The flashlight works great and keeps a charge for a long time. I just rotate the batteried through for a periodic charge.

Review Skil 2936 3.6-Volt Articulating Screwdriver with Site Light

Buy Cheap Skil 2936 3.6-Volt Articulating Screwdriver with Site Light From Here Now!

Every homeowner should have at least one cordless screwdriver in his or her tool kit, tool drawer or garage. The screwdriver should have high torque for removing those stubborn painted screws, should be charged at all times and should be lightweight and balanced.

The Skil 2936, a 3.6-volt cordless drill fits all the criteria listed. Weighing in at just 1.2 pounds with soft-grip handles, a four-position articulating work head, two screwdriver bits and a built-in work light, the 2936 is an economical and powerful all purpose screwdriver. The work head swivels and locks into four different positions for optimal positioning when working in tight places. The 3.6-volt removable battery which can be repeatedly charged provides all the power needed for most household jobs. When fully charged, use the screwdriver to assemble furniture, install bath and kitchen accessories, easily remove and reinstall wall plates when painting or to change out a door knob.

The 2936 is manufactured with metal gears and a metal front end for durability and dependability and comes with a 5-hour, 120-volt charger. --C. Dwight Barnett

 "Bad choice" 2007-09-18
By S. Jones (Palm City, FL)
I had the older skil 3.6 volt model and after seven years of heavy use screwing screws into the backs of picture frames the switch went on it. It was a great tool so I thought the newer model would be fine. WRONG! It's cheaply made light plastic and the bit wobbles unevenly while driving screws in. The speed is painfully slow and the battery life stinks. The stickers on the unit where crooked and actually falling off. I can't return it now because I threw out the box it came in. I guess skil jumped on the "make it cheap and throw it away" band wagon with Black and Decker. I'm cutting my losses and getting a Bosch PS10-2.

"Pretty good, except for the battery" 2006-04-25
By R. Frace (Austin, TX United States)
I have to agree with other reviewers here that the battery life is terrible on this tool. I also had a previous good experience with a Skil screwdriver that I had for 5 years before the battery finally went. I replaced it with this unit because I liked the light and the articulation features (which are great).

My only other complaint is that the flathead and phillips bits are 2 separate pieces and theres nowhere on the screwdrived itself to store the unused bit, making it easy to lose. My previous Skil screwdriver had a reversible bit that was much more convenient.

 "Not for female hands!" 2005-11-15
By Jennifer Swan (Kennesaw, GA)
After 5 years our Skil battery operated screwdriver finally died. The screwdriver was still as strong as could be but the batteries we had for it would no longer hold a charge. (We actually had two batteries because in a move we lost the unit, but still had the battery and charger). We specifically searched for another Skil screwdriver because my husband had been so happy with them for so many years. We purchased a Skil 3.6 volt battery operated screwdriver (model 2936). I am so upset that we wasted $30 on this new piece of junk. It holds a charge for about 15 minutes and it is nearly impossible for my small female hands to remove the battery to place on the cumbersome charger. It actually takes me longer to remove the battery than the charge it holds. Based on the Skil name we foolishly did not save the packaging or receipt or even register the product. I used to recommend the Skil name to everyone, however in a few minutes though I am leaving to purchase a Black and Decker screwdriver!

 "Works well" 2005-08-18

Mine works well thus far, and meets my expectations. It drives screws for furniture and disassembling packing crates, and provides more than enough torque for these applications. I haven't had any battery issues. It holds a charge for several days.

The site light is more useful than I expected, especially for furniture, where you need to see inside a countersunk hole.

I work on copiers for a living and remove and install machine screws with this screwdriver. This is a good little screwdriver, but I also own a similar sized Black and Decker that is quite a bit better although just a little bit larger. Both have the same size battery, but the B&D has quite a bit more torque and seems to hold a charge longer. This is really nicely sized and easy to operate, but I also know that there is a similarly sized and priced screwdriver that is quite a bit more rugged.

I was introduced to this mighty little tool from my daughter-in-law. My son has lots of large tools and yet, when the basic everyday jobs come up around the house, they both go for this small, unasuming, Skil cordless screwdriver. My husband too, has all the toys that fix everything but when it comes to taking care of business around the house, we didn't seem to have the right stuff until I ordered the Skill cordless. I keep it on the charger all the time ready for any and all jobs around the house. I love it, love it, love it! It may be small, but it packs a powerful punch.

Hi,

This handy little gadget gets the job done BUT has it's faults....I've only used it a few times for simple projects, and several times during the job, the bit would simply fall out on the floor. I found this very annoying and disruptive to my work as I had to then search around on the floor for the bit. Also, it comes with many screwdriver bits - but only one drill bit, which is quite small. I should have taken this more into consideration when I ordered the product.

I had an older version of the Denali 3.6-Volt cordless screwdriver/drill prior. It came with 5 various size drill bits and enough screwdriver bits for my household use. We received it as a housewarming gift when we moved into our new home. After six years of good use, it simply fell apart. That being said, however, I really enjoyed it's reliable performance over the years, and I now wish I had ordered another Denali instead of this Skil. I am getting my brother the Denali for Christmas.

Lots of torque for so small a tool. Gets into hard to reach places. Fits the hand nicely. Lots of accessory bits included, some of which are not easily found. I wish the charging stand would have been designed to be mounted on a wall, and the tool rested in the stand.

Then it would be constantly at full charge.
