I've been wondering for a while now if and when they would make a LI battery for hand tools. Finally that day has come! The lasting power of the LI is a marked improvement over the NiCad battery. I have a brand new NiCad and 2 LI, and the LI lasts 2 - 3 times as long. I can actually get some work done w/ them now!



The only drawback is you need separate chargers for the LI and NiCad batteries.

 "New life for the old tool set" 2010-05-06

A nice option to buying a new set of lithium tools, at least for my needs. So far, so good. These batteries are easy to remove, unlike the old ni-cad batteries which became impossible. They seem more powerful, and hold a charge well. Run time seems good, and they charge quickly. Being half the size and weight as the ni-cads is also a plus.



I don't think that most people are going to want to invest more money in 2 batteries and a charger than they paid for a complete tool set, but I like the tools (even though the color design Skil used makes them look like a kid's toy raygun), especially the drill and circular saw. I didn't want to just throw the set away. Also, this is the only cordless brand I've seen where the circular saw's blade is on the right, which works for southpaws. I can see the line as I cut. Re-use made sense for me, anyway, since I can't easily or cheaply replace the lefty saw.

Finally, an upgrade for my old 18v skil tools. Didn't want to give up the tools when I wore out my old ni-cad batteries, so was glad to see this became available. Probably the best thing Skil has done in a long time!!!

I aways had the problem of charging my Ni-Cd batteries for my old drill each time I needed to use it. With the Li-Ion drill doesn't happen any more. The batteries are always ready to be used. I have a brand new NiCad and 2 LI, and the LI lasts 2 - 3 times as long. I can actually get some work done w/ them now!



The only drawback is you need separate chargers for the LI and NiCad batteries.

I enjoy using this power mini-driver. I have used it to help me assemble curtain brackets, office tables, etc. Honestly, I prefer using this over a hand screwdriver. This thing helps my jobs go faster. Heed some of the negative reviews written they have some truth behind them (ie. lack of a clutch means possible overtorquing and stripping screws, lack of an extra rechargeable battery...the batt on this thing is internal). Overall, based on my experiences I'm giving this a great review because it hasn't let me down yet. I would most likely purchase an upgraded product should the Skil fail in the future.

Unless you need the right angle attachment, you should instead consider the Bosch SPS10-2 4-Volt Max Pocket Screwdriver, which is only a few dollars more. Skil is a subsidiary of Bosch. Both screwdrivers are made in Malaysia, so one can assume they come out of the same factory. But the Bosch comes with two removable lithium batteries, whereas the Skil only has an integrated one. Also, if your dog eats the right angle attachment, Skil does not offer a replacement. It only comes with the original purchase. To me that sounds like dumb customer support. The IXO3 was originally announced in 2008 with optional attachments beside the included right angle drive, but they are not now available from Skil. The IXO3 comes with a removable rubber cap to accommodate attachments to the front of the driver. The rubber may deteriorate over time, though the driver can operate without the rubber cap.

This screwdriver does not have torque settings. Torque settings is what keeps you from overtorquing and stripping out your screws. Also, if you need to run screws after screws very quickly, you'll be severely disappointed with this screwdriver. Spend just a tad more and get the Hitachi DB3DL. It has torque settings, runs a lot faster, and comes w/ 2 rechargeable batteries. So, if one battery goes down, you can slip in the other one and continue working with no down time.

The Skil iX03 2346-05 with the Li-Ion battery is much better than the Skil Super Twist with interchaneable Nickel Cadmilum batery packs. The Li-Ion last mush longer per charge. The Skil iX03 2346-05 has the 90 degree adaptor and bits that let it handle more jobs. The Skil iX03 2346-05 is a better fit to your hand also.

Unless you need the right angle attachment, you should instead consider the Bosch SPS10-2 4-Volt Max Pocket Screwdriver, which is only a few dollars more. Skil is a subsidiary of Bosch. Both screwdrivers are made in Malaysia, so one can assume they come out of the same factory. But the Bosch comes with two removable lithium batteries, whereas the Skil only has an integrated one. Also, if your dog eats the right angle attachment, Skil does not offer a replacement. It only comes with the original purchase. To me that sounds like dumb customer support. The IXO3 was originally announced in 2008 with optional attachments beside the included right angle drive, but they are not now available from Skil. The IXO3 comes with a removable rubber cap to accommodate attachments to the front of the driver. The rubber may deteriorate over time, though the driver can operate without the rubber cap.

This screwdriver does not have torque settings. Torque settings is what keeps you from overtorquing and stripping out your screws. Also, if you need to run screws after screws very quickly, you'll be severely disappointed with this screwdriver. Spend just a tad more and get the Hitachi DB3DL. It has torque settings, runs a lot faster, and comes w/ 2 rechargeable batteries. So, if one battery goes down, you can slip in the other one and continue working with no down time.

The Skil iX03 2346-05 with the Li-Ion battery is much better than the Skil Super Twist with interchaneable Nickel Cadmilum batery packs. The Li-Ion last mush longer per charge. The Skil iX03 2346-05 has the 90 degree adaptor and bits that let it handle more jobs. The Skil iX03 2346-05 is a better fit to your hand also.

I've only owned this drill for a short time, but it has performed well for me. I purchased it as a handy tool to have around the house and have been happy wiih it so far. The only downside for me is that the torque of the drill is not adjustable, so be care full with small stuff.. I like the LI-Ion battery. It doesn't appear to self discharge as quickly as others, so I always have drill power when needed.My hands are a bit big for this drill, but I have a good grip. The drill comes with a nice collection of driver tips, which is useful to me.
